Gryphiustrasse 1
I figured I should post some pictures of my apartment. It was really nice to come straight here from the airport and not have to deal with a hostel. We have this place subletted for a month, and then need to find another flat. Right now we are in Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain, and I like it a lot. I want to do some more exploring, but I'd be fine if we found another place in this neighborhood.
My room:

Atom's room:

Living room that we never use, could be a third bedroom:

Did I mention that this place is huge? Our lobby hallway gives you some kind of idea; Atom is 6'8" and he looks tiny standing in it:

Is there still a big difference between the two sides of Berlin? Where is Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain relative to, say, the Brandenburg Gate?

Hi Aidan! Sorry I missed you in London, but I don't think you would have wanted to see me that day, I was exhausted.
The Brandenburg Gate is in the middle of the city - Mitte. My neighborhood is sort of adjacent to that, a bit southeast. This is a really good map of neighborhoods.

Oh WOW! You're right in the middle of the city! I think I read that you can still see parts of the Wall in your neighborhood. Do you still get a sense of the old DDR there?

Yes, you can definitely tell that this was once DDR. A lot of still somewhat-abandoned buildings, the Eastern European architecture...Berlin is doing a good job reclaiming itself, so maybe I am just projecting.
I'm reading a really cool book, _Ghosts of Berlin_, about how the city's history is reflected in its architecture and development, highly recommended.
